ABOUT OKU KINGDOM

Oku is a town located in the Northwest Region of Cameroon. It is situated at an altitude of about 2,200 meters above sea level and is known for its scenic beauty, rich cultural heritage, and traditional architecture.

The town is home to the Oku people, a group of ethnic Tikar people who have lived in the area for centuries. The Oku people are known for their intricate woodcarvings, colorful beadwork, and distinctive lifestyle. They also have a unique cultural festival called the Ndong, which is celebrated annually in December.

MOUNT OKU

Mount Oku is a volcanic mountain located in the Bamenda Highlands of the Northwest Region of Cameroon. It is the second-highest mountain in Cameroon, with an elevation of 3,011 meters (9,879 feet) above sea level, and is known for its rich biodiversity and cultural heritage.

TOURISM IN OKU

One of the main attractions in Oku is the Oku White Honey, which is produced by the indigenous bees found in the area. The honey is highly prized for its medicinal properties and is used to cure a range of ailments.

STORY OF LAKE OKU

Another notable attraction in Oku is the Oku Lake, which is located on the slopes of Mount Oku. The lake is surrounded by lush vegetation and is home to a variety of wildlife, including birds, monkeys, and reptiles.

OKU SACRAD FORESTS

The area surrounding Mount Oku has been designated as the Mount Oku Forest Reserve, which covers an area of approximately 1,900 hectares and is home to a variety of forest types, including submontane and montane forests. The reserve is also home to several rivers and streams, which provide water for local communities and support a variety of aquatic species.
